When I took over the business I had a bit of a reboot, it was a new generation with new ideas. Having said that I stuck with Stephenson Smart, not because we had been clients since 1922, but because of Claire’s vibrant, conscientious attitude. She looks after a broad spectrum of accountancy for us including tax advice, account preparation and VAT.

There are two certainties in life – death and taxes, so you need to have a good accountant behind you as estate planning is crucial.

Our business has been in our family for 60 years and everything we build is bespoke, therefore when our in-house accountant retired we needed to find the right accountants to work with.

Chris at Stephenson Smart is very easy going, nothing ever seems to be a problem. He looks after all our payroll and books and has become like another employee of the company – that is how we view him.

Stephenson Smart has been our accountancy firm for about four years, looking after our payroll, bookkeeping, tax, management accounts. We employ 18 people, so as a small business it’s important to be able to put our trust in an accountancy firm. We don’t feel like we are a number, we view Chris as an extension to our team. If I had to sum up Stephenson Smart in one word it would be awesome.

It’s very simple really. If I have a question, however trivial, Henry will answer it in terms that I understand and put me at ease. He looks after all areas of accounting for us and nothing is ever too much trouble. He may be my accountant, but I also class him as a friend.

I have a great relationship with Mike (Rowles) and feel I can easily contact Jill with queries relating to statutory accounts or tax. It is good to be able to pull on different specialisms across the organisation.

I am absolutely pleased at receiving a very professional service with a very professional nature. I feel really comfortable to pick up the phone and ask a question.
