It’s A Dad’s Life with Neil Gayton
We are fast approaching the summer holidays.
Although this year it feels different with no exams, school reports, class photo or sports day - all little markers we observe as we count down to the six-week break.
In our house we would usually be building up to a trip abroad or to a pretty Norfolk destination.
But as that’s not possible in the current climate, I need to think of some inventive ways to keep the boys entertained.
Do I buy an industrially sized swimming pool, water slide or perhaps full on adventure play equipment?
I’m joking of course. In reality, their expectations aren’t that high - they would settle for a game of football and an ice cream with a flake.
And one thing is for sure, the giant super soaker is staying at the shop because the only person that ends up soaked in a super way is me.
There’s a lot in the news in the moment about holiday cancellations, airlines at risk and people putting breaks on hold.
It’s important perhaps now more than ever to be ATOL protected. For people who have already booked a holiday, or for those thinking of booking one next year, I would recommend securing a deal through an ATOL registered UK travel company.
This means that if your holiday company stops trading you won’t lose any money or become stranded.
At Stephenson Smart we have two members of staff who have an ATOL qualification, which means we can support our clients who work in the travel industry holding ATOL certificates with annual renewals to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
All renewals must be signed off by a CAA reporting accountant called an ATOL Reporting Accountant (ARA).
Our little claim to fame is that partner Martyn Benstead, who is based at our Fakenham office, was one of the first accountants in the country to become an ARA, and the first registered in Norfolk.
I’m off now to recreate a holiday environment in our garden. Surely that should start with a beer?
